I·CARE Blood Donation Day yields remarkable results

Given the then stabilisation of the COVID-19 pandemic, this Centre staged the long-awaited I·CARE Blood Donation Day on the 3rd of November last year. The Hong Kong Red Cross Blood Transfusion Service was invited to set up a blood collection station on the 5th floor of Wong Foo Yuan Building, so that university members could give blood in a familiar environment without the hassle of traveling.

Same as many previous I·CARE Blood Donation Day, the theme of this one is “Blood and Book Giving - A Challenge of Blood Donation Relay”. Making online reservation in advance is an exception due to the prevention of crowd gathering amid the pandemic. Although the event also welcomed walk-ins, those benefactors who had registered beforehand were given priority. This I·CARE Blood Donation Day finally attracted a participation of over 70 CUHK students and staff despite the additional check-in procedures. Besides helping people who require blood transfusion, participants who had accepted the challenge were able to win a new book donated by the author or by this Centre. They include:

  • 《我們的夢想 ── 毋忘初心的科學家》written by Edwin Chan Ho-yin (autographed)

  • 《跑出一片天》written by Walter SW Cheung (autographed)

  • 《十緣 · 六份 》complied by People Service Centre

  • 《客家人客家事》compiled by Fanny MC Cheung

  • 《注意!這是我的個人資料私隱》written by Mr. Stephen KY Wong

  • View from the Summit written by Sir Edmund Hillary

  • 1434: The Year a Magnificent Chinese Fleet Sailed to Italy and Ignited the Renaissance written by Gavin Menzies

During their donation of blood in our Centre, the benefactors were required to upload to the social media a photo showing their participation and to invite (tag) one CUHK friend of them (i.e. the nominee) to act likewise. Once the nominee gave blood at our Centre, he / she could pick one gratis book. If he / she issued the same challenge to another CUHK friend, this nominee would obtain one more book (i.e. two books in total).

This Centre counts on your continued support to serve the society in different areas on top of donating blood.
